The Oblivious Bride smallThe Oblivious Bride

When Danni was proposed to, she almost immediately made the decision to put everything into her mother’s hands, as far as the wedding planning was concerned. She was too consumed with loving on Evan, her fiance, to focus on the wedding. After all, she didn’t really care about those things anyway. That was her mom’s area of expertise. Besides, Evan was re-cooperating from a sports injury resulting in a coma. His re-cooperation had been touch and go for some time. Danni had spent so much time at Evan’s hospital bedside, then the same when he returned home. Who cared about the wedding itself! Her mom could deal with that. Danni trusted her mom’s expertise in all things “wedding.”

But, the one thing Danni promised her mother (as if it was in her own control), was that her mom didn’t need to worry or fret. Whatever she planned for that special wedding day was beyond fine with her. Her upcoming wedding day was going to be beyond lovely… it was going to be unequivocally the most perfect wedding day ever! Anywhere! EVER!!

And it WAS… until…

thecouplethatcookstogetherlittleThe Couple That Cooks Together

When Carlie graduated from college with a business degree, her parents asked what she’d like as a graduation gift. Knowing her parents would be strapped for years to come just paying off her college debt, she just suggested that anything would be fine. And, told them not to feel like they had to make a big deal.

On the day of her graduation, Carlie’s folks simply handed her an envelope and told her Congratulations. She assumed it would be a receipt for a new curling iron, a cap, gloves and scarf for next winter, or something comparable.

When she opened the envelope, it was a paid tuition to a local kitchen shop and cooking school called Secret Ingredient, for a ten-week cooking course, which featured world-renowned chefs from tv and online.

Carlie was ecstatic! There was NOTHING she loved more than to cook. But, to do it under the tutelage of celebrity chefs was beyond anything she could have dreamed.

Little did Carlie know that not only was she going to earn a Certificate of Completion if she completed the cooking class curriculum, but that she was also going to earn a Certificate of a different kind as a result of this class. And, something even beyond that… something else she’d never imagined!

Is that even possible?!

Return to Cinder coverReturn to Cinder ~ A Christmas Tale

LOOSELY BASED ON TRUE EVENTS.

Buying Christmas gifts for Dean was next to impossible. No, buying Christmas gifts for him WAS impossible. When Christmas came this year, I was at a total loss as to what to get him. I felt tremendous frustration, disgust, anger, all aimed toward him. Let’s just say my attitude was beyond being classified as “very poor.” But, the difference in this Christmas season was beyond being even believable. But, I know what happened was real, because I experienced it. It was a nightmare!

It started with me burning a large number of food items, all in a twenty-four hour period. Dean, Ammonia (our dog), and I sustained massive injuries from the food preparation debacle. From there I deceitfully spent an uncontrolled amount of money (in the hundreds) buying a kit to try to win a gingerbread house contest in my community. The winner would walk away with five hundred dollars in cash or gift cards to a local strip mall. Perfect! I could buy any number of wonderful things for Dean with that amount of money.

I never entered the contest, couldn’t take back the kit. So, I was really in a fix financially. And then it got even worse!

I wouldn’t believe all of it happened, if it hadn’t happened to me. But, it did! Whoa… did it ever!

Awena cover small 2

Awena and the Door-to-Door Salesman

Awena was my grandmother. Her real name was Roseacia Lune. Ugly, right? So, she changed it to Rose. So, as my grandmother, where in the world did she come up with the name Awena, which the only name I ever knew her by.

Crazy enough in itself, she met a door-to-door salesman back in 1916, during WWI by playing part in a crazy, crazy way. They became an item. But, when she was asked about the same events, she told it in a way that couldn’t possibly be believed. And, because she was a pathological liar, she thought people bought it. But, if they didn’t, she wasn’t above lying even deeper into the version and practically turning it into a fairytale.

Then, to make matters worse, she’d state, “And, I hope G– strikes me dead with lightning right this minute, if it ain’t the truth.” Well, that may not have been verbatim, but it was close enough.

The story is told first in its TRUTHFUL version by my mom and Aunt Deanna, then through Awena herself, in all its colorful, historically-inaccurate, and downright absurd version.

It may have been all lies, but boy, could that woman spin a yarn!
